thank you for a very informative site. My son has a perimembranous vsd. His cardiologist has told me that it is about 5 to 6 mm in size. The dr acts like it is impressively large, but I am reading conflicting things online. He has a palpable thrill and it is loud enough to hear with your ear over his chest. He gains about one pound every two weeks on average and breastfeeds well. No sweaty feeding but he does breathe a little hard and fast sometimes. Is a 5 to 6 mm vsd moderate or small? Thank you.

As per the ECHO CARDIOGRAPHY REPORT My Daughter ( 5 months old) has been diagnosed with PFO shunting L-R, Normal Heart Study.

Your daughter will need continued follow up with echocardiography and whatever other imaging her doctor deems necessary.

Kids live with VSDs and quite often do well long term.
